The AHEC of a Summer program was created by NLAHEC (Northeast Louisiana Area Education Center). The program runs through the month of June only, and it is for high school freshman, sophomores and juniors who want a medical career. It was designed to help teenagers decided which area of medicine they would like to focus on BEFORE they go to college.

Students must meet academic requirements, show a dedication to school and community, complete an essay on why they want to work in a medical field, and be interviewed before they are selected. Spaces are very limited, but the chosen few are given access to several departments at E.A. Conway, including Pharmacy, Lab, Labor & Delivery, Outpatients Clinics, ER and OR, to name a few.

The AoS experience also includes field trips to area medical businesses, like LifeShare Blood Center or a prosthetic clinic. All students are CPR certified during the program, and they also have suturing lessons with Dr. F. Mistry!

If you are a high school freshman, sophomore or junior, and you are up to the AHEC challenge, please contact Denise at 330-7224, or AHEC at 330-7700 for an application or more information.
